Chief Executive OfficerCurrent CEO and co-founder of Storm Technology, Karl Flannery has led the business for over 25 years, building it into one of Ireland’s most trusted business technology consultancies. After graduating from UCG (NUIG, UoG) in Applied Physics, Karl began his career in software development working for a Canadian telecom multinational. In response to a latent market need for a software services organisation, Karl co-founded Storm Technology to provide contract development services to the Irish market.
Today Karl plays a central role in Storm’s business growth not only from a strategic perspective, identifying growth opportunities, but also in establishing a culture that will attract the best talent and ensuring the business has the financial resources in place at the right time to support that growth. To strengthen Storm’s position as a leading provider of business technology consultancy services, he continues to foster strong external relationships with partners such as Microsoft.
Working in the industry for over four decades, Karl has contributed to the wider technology sector, chairing associations like the Irish Software Association, now known as Technology Ireland. He was also involved with various national initiatives including the IP Protocol Implementation Group, Tech/Life Ireland, Space Strategy for Enterprise, and Advanced Manufacturing Research (Industry 4.0) He has also held board positions for the Innovation Hub at ATU, Irish Manufacturing Research, ITAG, Knowledge Transfer Ireland and various other technology-related initiatives under Enterprise Ireland and IBEC. Karl is committed to advancing the needs of the Irish Software and Digital technology sector both here and internationally.
Mick McKay
Chief Operations OfficerChief Operating Officer at Storm Technology, Mick McKay champions execution excellence and successful Client outcomes throughout the organisation. After graduating from Trinity College Dublin with a degree in Electrical & Microelectronic Engineering, Mick has gone on to hold senior positions in leading indigenous Irish firms and global organisations including IONA Technologies and Microsoft.
During his career to date, Mick has had the opportunity to lead both national and international teams, bringing this international expertise and insight into his role in Storm Technology.
In his current role with Storm Technology, Mick has demonstrated a laser focus on successful Client deployment and user experience. He maintains a strong emphasis on fiscal discipline whilst always fostering a culture of curiosity, learning, personal and professional career progression within his teams. Mick continues to lead and drive strategic business initiatives while also applying enterprise-level best practice operational processes across each and every client engagement.
Mike Lillis
Chief Commercial OfficerWith over 20 years of experience in the technology industry, Mike Lillis, Chief Commercial Officer at Storm Technology drives business growth through customer-focused digital transformation and relationship management. After graduating from the University of Limerick with a degree in IT & Telecommunications, Mike started his career in the global finance firm JP Morgan, before joining Accenture and later specialising in Microsoft solutions with domestic technology consultancy Vulcan Solutions.
Having joined Storm in 2012, Mike has worked his way up from delivery and today is part of the leadership team at Storm contributing to top-level strategic decisions for the business. Spearheading commercial success and championing business through growth, Mike's experience leading both the D365 and Modern Workplace practices strengthens Storm’s commercial processes bringing both delivery and business growth together to maximise client success.
An avid contributor to the sporting community, Mike coaches GAA and Soccer with this love of team sports reflected in his focus on fostering a culture of community, collaboration and achievement. An ethos that he applies to his interactions with the wider Microsoft community in Ireland, through his role as President of the Irish Chapter of the International Association of Microsoft Certified Partners (IAMCP), an association that helps companies and individuals in the Microsoft eco-system broaden their base by building relationships within the Partner community.
Mary Purcell
Director of Human ResourcesDirector of Human Resources* at Storm Technology, Mary Purcell leads the design and implementation of Storm’s people strategy. With over 20 years of experience in HR and Business Leadership, Mary holds a BSc in Marketing and business from TU, an MSc in Business (Organisational Behaviour) from Trinity College Dublin and a Diploma in Business, Executive & Personal Coaching from the Coach Institute of Ireland.
In her current role, Mary champions modernising the employee experience to enhance continual alignment with the shifting expectations and needs of today’s workforce. She has crafted an employer value proposition which integrates flexibility, feedback, communication, and a holistic approach to employee well-being.
Bringing a wealth of knowledge to her role in Storm Technology, Mary’s experience spans the financial services, technology, and energy sectors. experience includes international experience with Bank of America Securities and domestic experience with GE Capital. She has fulfilled HR strategic and operational roles, including as HR Director and a member of the Executive Leadership team in GE Capital (Money). She has developed broad business transformation experience, having delivered business growth and reduction strategies including organisational re-designs dedicated to enhancing business results.
